How do I choose the right Company?
Choosing the right company to do your important project can be a daunting task. There are many ways that you can do your homework to ensure that you will have a stress free experience, achieve quality results, and protect your investment.

1. Do they have the proper licensing to do your job?
The company you are considering should have a general contractors or residential license registered with the Georgia Secretary of State, and they should have a valid business license. Some jobs require permitting and always need to be done according to code.
2. Does the company have Worker’s Compensation and Liability insurance?
You should request to see a copy of the company’s insurance information. It is very important that your family is protected by the company’s insurance and not your own.
3. Do they have a showroom or physical office where you can meet, pick out products, go over designs, see displays of projects, and discuss your project?
The contractor should have a showroom or physical office to display their work. Customers should be able to physically see samples of a company’s work before they contract with them. Many contractors work from their truck, home, or one room office. You should contract with a proven company who can manage the entire project and who will be around for the duration of the warranty.
4. Does the company carry the products they are installing for you?
A company should be an established dealer of all the products they are installing for your remodeling project. This includes items such as: cabinetry, appliances, fixtures, windows, flooring, home theater products, window treatments, and lighting. Most products have a specific guideline as to installation, and the company should have experience in installing those products.
5. Does the company design your project with full color renderings and layouts so you can see what the completed project will look like before you agree to start the project?
Surprisingly, many customers choose a company for a major renovation project without even seeing what the project will look like when it is completed. There is no way to verify what the end result will be without seeing it beforehand. A potential customer should verify the quality of the work of any given company by visiting their showroom, seeing the finished design of their project, watching a video of their work, and checking actual customer references of completed projects.
6. Does the company have adequate experience and credentials?
The project manager should have years of experience in their related field, and should be an expert on what they are quoting, building, and installing. A company with any history at all should have won some awards for their work and should have many satisfied clients.
7. Does the company have verifiable references about projects they have completed?
The company should have many positive testimonials about the work they have done, have a showroom where you can see their work, have a video displaying their work, and have customers you can call or visit to see their completed projects.
8. Does the company offer warranties or guarantees for the work they do?
The company should have guarantees that they stand by for each project they complete. Also, the products they carry should have warranties to protect your investment. Warranties and guarantees offer peace of mind knowing that your investment will be protected, and be transferable if you sell your house.
9. How quickly can they be contacted?
While someone is working on your home, you'll want to be able to reach them anytime during normal business hour. For instance, if there is any questions or problems, you want a number that can be reached that will not go to voice mail. Otherwise the project can get to be very frustrating when you cannot get information and answers when you need it.
10. Do they offer financing?
Most clients pay for their remodeling project without financing, but you should still find out if he offers financing. If he does, this means that he's met the necessary criteria for approval by a
financial lender, which is a big check in the "plus" column. Financing approval indicates that he has a positive business history with no serious complaints.
11. Did you do your homework on the company?
Your information is what you need to rely on. If you contact a company and they have a smooth talking salesman that has a low price that is "for today only" with a quick finish date, well they are
probably to good to be true. The lowest price and the quickest work is not always what will be best. It might mean they don’t know what the job entails or they don’t plan to do it right. Check
them out, you'll be glad you did the research.

At Sawhaven Renovations, recently had a client that we designed and bid a kitchen for and lost the job to someone else that we will not name at this time. The unlicensed contractor took a 50% deposit which was over $15,000 and was gone never to be heard from again. The homeowner could not find him to prosecute so had no option but to start over. My name is Bastian Johnston, and I originally hail from Anchorage, Alaska. I studied at UAA where I majored in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Management. I have a well-rounded work history in the business community which has given me the experience to handle the diverse and complex nature of the construction industry. I worked for the Wells Fargo Bank as a loan office where I underwrote consumer and commercial loans for a branch location. I excelled at my position with Wells Fargo and turned down the opportunity to run a branch location to take a job as an account executive working for Ad Engines, Inc in Alpharetta, GA. I decided to leave Ad Engines, Inc shortly after it was bought out by the media conglomerate Landmark Communications to work for Sawhaven Renovations as their Office Manager.
